How to Make Life More Magical When It Feels Anything But

With the recent US election results not going the way many of us hoped, I know a lot of people are feeling stressed, anxious, and uncertain about the future. When the world around us feels chaotic and heavy, it’s easy to lose sight of the small joys in life. But here’s the thing: we don’t have to give up on creating moments of magic, even in difficult times. Instead, we can make an intentional effort to weave a little light into our everyday lives, lifting ourselves up—even if just for a moment.

When I went through a hard bout of depression, my doctor gave me simple yet powerful advice: find something to look forward to each day, no matter how small. These aren’t big, life-changing events but little moments of joy that bring a spark of happiness. Whether it’s using the ‘good’ dishes on a regular day, a walk in nature, or watching a favorite show, these moments shift our focus and remind us there’s still light, even when the future feels uncertain.

Making the Mundane Magical

Recently, I spoke with my health coach about something I’ve always dreaded: meal prep. Like many people, I find it hard to enjoy the process of planning meals, grocery shopping, and cooking. My health coach suggested something simple but transformative—add a touch of magic to the routine. Go to your favorite coffee shop to meal plan, treat yourself flowers at the store, listen to a favorite podcast while you cook, or light a candle to create a calming atmosphere in the kitchen. Suddenly, meal prep becomes more than a chore; it becomes a moment of self-care and intentional living, one that brings a sense of joy.

Taking Action as Self-Care

It’s also worth remembering that creating magic in life doesn’t mean ignoring what’s hard. It’s natural to feel disheartened after a setback, but we don’t have to stay in that place. Taking action, even in small ways, can actually help relieve stress and bring purpose. Whether it’s volunteering, donating, coming together in community, or having an honest conversation, these small steps create positive energy and align with our values, helping us feel empowered and grounded.

Simple Ways to Make Life More Magical

So how can we bring more magic into our lives when it feels anything but? Here are a few practical ways to make every day more meaningful and reduce stress:

  1. Create Small Rituals – Start the day by writing in a beautiful journal (with a GOOD pen), take a minute to reflect on what you’re grateful for before a meal, or listen to a fun fiction book while you exercise.
  2. Curate “Moments of Joy” – Pick one small thing each day to look forward to, no matter how simple, and treat it like a gift to yourself.
  3. Add Joy to Tasks You Dread – Whether it’s cleaning, running errands, or exercising, make the experience more enjoyable with music, a favorite drink, or a reward afterward.
  4. Take Empowering Action – Support a cause you care about, journal your thoughts, or have a meaningful conversation with someone who inspires you. Small actions keep us grounded and help us feel empowered.

Finding Hope in the Everyday

By choosing to bring small, intentional acts of magic into our daily routines, we create resilience and keep hope alive—even during challenging times. Making life more magical is about embracing small joys, protecting your spirit, and turning everyday moments into something special. Self-care is not only an act of love for yourself; it’s a statement of resilience and strength in a world that needs more of it.
