How Do You Know You’re Burning Out?

Burnout doesn’t always look how you think it will.

It’s not just snapping at everyone or crying at your desk (although it can be). It’s not always dramatic. Sometimes, it’s quiet. Subtle. Sneaky.

For me, it wasn’t one big moment-until it was.

It built up slowly. A constant buzz in my chest, like I had a motor running on overdrive. This sense that if I just worked a little harder, I’d finally feel caught up.

But guess what? I never did.

I was exhausted. Frustrated. Stuck. I just thought I needed to “get it together.” That at some point, something that I did would be the catalyst and it would all be better.

Looking back now, I can spot the signs a mile away. Not just in myself, but in so many women I work with. That simmering anxiety. The bone-deep tiredness that sleep doesn’t fix. The mental load that feels like it might crush you. And the belief that if you stop-even for a second-it will all come crashing down around you.

I want you to catch it before it gets that far. Before your body forces you to stop (because it will). Before you have a break down on vacation like I did. Before you’re too exhausted to care about the business or life you’ve worked so hard to build.

So how do you know if you’re on the edge of burn out?

Here are some common signs I see in my clients (and have lived through myself):

  • You’re always tired but can’t seem to rest
  • You feel guilty for taking breaks or naps
  • Work that used to excite you now feels like a chore
  • You fantasize about quitting everything and running away
  • Your to-do list feels endless, and nothing ever feels like it’s done
  • You’ve stopped doing the things that make you feel like you

Sound familiar?

Luckily, you don’t have to stay here.

Burnout is a signal, not a life sentence. It’s your body and soul waving the white flag. And once you recognize it, you can do something about it.

A few ways to start coming back to yourself:

Create space. Step one is slowing down enough to hear yourself think. This could mean canceling a meeting, taking a real lunch break, or putting your phone on Do Not Disturb for an hour.

Get honest. Ask yourself: Is the way I’m working actually working? What’s draining you? What’s keeping you stuck?

Simplify something. Pick one area-your calendar, your client onboarding, your morning routine-and ask how could this be easy?

Ask for help. Whether it’s outsourcing tasks, leaning on a friend, or hiring a coach, you don’t have to do this alone. Remember-people want to help you!

Add joy back in. Burnout recovery isn’t just about doing less-it’s about doing more of what lights you up. Nature walks. Reading fiction. Making art. Laughing with friends. Cooking a delicious meal. It’s ok to start small.

Burnout might feel like the end, but it can also be a beginning. A wake-up call, and invitation to rebuild in a way that actually supports you. Please don’t wait for a breakdown to make a change. You’re allowed to choose ease, rest, and alignment now-before it gets bad.

If you’re starting to notice the signs, or you’re already deep in it, you’re not alone.
This is the work I do every day with my clients: helping them untangle the overwhelm, find their footing again, and build a business (and life) that actually feels good.

If that’s something you need, I’d be honored to support you. Let’s talk.
